Waiting for Wings

butterfly, spring, pollination, rebirthIn Spring we wait to see the wings of butterflies flying from one flower to the next. Butterflies are amazing insects! Besides their stunning colors and beauty in flight, they also pollinate plants by carrying the pollen from plant to plant necessary for them to reproduce.

Nature Detectives look for butterflies during our “Nature in Motion” spring session. First we read “Waiting for Wings,” that describes the life cycle from egg to caterpillar to butterfly in a beautiful, fully illustrated picture book. We talk about butterflies as a symbol of rebirth and the coming of spring. We make and decorate butterfly fan puppets too.
