A New Way to Share the Natural World
When Nature Detectives transitioned to an online platform in Fall 2020 after two years in person, we needed to document all our activities, instructions, supplies, and best practices in clear and simple ways.
Parents needed this information to prepare for their online classes, and support their children as each one completes their Discovery Journals, and all of our outdoor exploration activities.
Becoming a Certified Nature Detectives Guide creates a unique opportunity for after school staff, teachers, parks and nature center staff, and other care providers to replicate this simple, inexpensive and FUN, nature discovery program.
Step One: Orientation Meeting
The first step to learn more about Nature Detectives is to attend a live 90-minute online orientation. You will learn the goals and essence of our Fall, Winter and Spring sessions, and preview contents of our Discovery Guides. Participants who decide that Nature Detectives meets their needs, enroll in additional training to become a Certified Nature Detectives Guide.
Step Two: Attend a Train the Trainer Meeting*
After completing the Orientation meeting, the next step is attend a Training for a specific 8-week season. You need to be Certified for each season you want to present. We support parents and providers become effective Nature Guides in the following ways:
1- Three seasonal training workshops provide insights into how to deliver the program to engage each child’s curiosity and imagination, provide space for them to take responsibility for their own learning, all the while retaining the fun and playful spirit of Nature Detectives.
2- Copies of our Discovery Guides – select either downloadable PDFs or printed booklets.
3- Private demonstration videos to describe how to create a Nature Discovery Journal, complete art projects, and other activities that may need additional instruction.
*Certify for each season so can try out the program and see how it fits with your existing services. Certification Fees are being worked out and will be set by our Orientation meetings.
If you choose to continue for the full year, you will receive the All Season Discovery Guide at the same time as Spring Nature in Motion to use without additional charge through the summer.
